Images of the Fight to Desegregate Schools

This image shows the Tape family. They were the first family to sue against school segregation [separating schools by race] and win. They did so in 1885. The battle end segregation has lasted more than a century.

The NAACP hired a team of lawyers to argue against segregation in Brown v. Board of Education. Thurgood Marshall, in the middle, would later become the first Black person to become a Supreme Court Justice.
